My New Model – AKA “So I Wrote A Book”

The face of film is changing. No one’s unclear about that (double negative – suck it, bitches!). Digital distribution is actually a thing now. You’ve got entire series coming out that are Netflix-exclusive or Hulu-exclusive. Redbox has funded feature films. (No good ones that I’m aware of, but it’s only a matter of time). Web distribution is actually making people money. The game is changing every day. After almost 100 years of the studio model and its stagnation we’ve all witnessed in the last couple of decades, now everyone is flailing about wildly trying to figure out what the “next big thing” is, or if there even is a new big thing.

Well, I’ve come up with an idea, and the night before last, I took the first step toward putting into action. Continue reading

Bags, Bilbo and Blades

So one of the things I was supposed to do while in Wellington was deliver some bags. A good friend of mine back home named Severn Lang designs custom leather purses, murses and so on. You can check out his site here. The guy does absolutely fantastic work – in fact he’s been helping me design leather for my upcoming series, Quest. I could not be happier with it – the guy is a pro, and his attention to detail is incredible. He’s the kind of guy who will watch a movie like Immortals and go, “Yeah, the armor looks cool, but the leather parts are made with bison. I mean, what the hell? It’s ancient Greece, they would have used goat or cow.” Maybe you’re the type of person who finds that pedantic, but I find it awesome, and it’s definitely what you want in someone who’s designing props for your film project.

Severn’s been designing bags for Gwen McTavish, the wife of Graham McTavish, for years. Apparently Graham used to wear one of Severn’s bags on set all the time, and pretty soon other actors and some of the film’s higher-ups started getting bags from him as well. I brought three of them with me to New Zealand to deliver to Gwen, for three of the Dwarf actors. So on Tuesday morning, our third day here, I called Gwen and found out where the bags were to be delivered. Continue reading

Fate is a Wily Bitch

So how was my day 2 in New Zealand? Well, this happened:

Can't think of anything funny here. Fart joke.

I had to have Ryan upload this because I still crap myself every time I see it.

Buuut, of course, there’s a little bit of story first. Continue reading

Fuck. You. Cancer.

I’ve never had a blog all to my very own.

Oh, sure, I keep a blog about trying to work on a movie. But that’s more of a video diary, about one subject. No real chance to explore topics that are important to you when you’re trying desperately to hold the attention of the average YouTuber.

I had a website, once, with links to stuff I had worked on. But I’ve never sat down and tried to explain me to anyone else. Why should I? To most of my friends, I’m an uncomplicated guy. Young to be married and a father of two, sure, but so what? I’m barely political, I don’t get into arguments, I’ve never gotten into a fight, I’ve never done or been addicted to drugs, not an alcoholic. I live in a white house with a picket fence, for fuck’s sake. Continue reading
